Welcome to the UA Local 447 Training Center

The United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada (UA) is a multi-craft union whose members are engaged in the fabrication, installation and servicing of piping systems. There are approximately 340,000 highly-skilled United Association members across North America. No other organization serves the training needs of the piping industry like the United Association. For over a century, the UA has been training the most highly-qualified workers in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1889, the United Association is one of the most respected and influential building trades unions in the U.S. and Canada today. It serves as a collective voice for workers through negotiation and collective bargaining with employing contractor groups. The United Association has been training qualified pipe tradesmen and women longer than anyone else in the industry. The UA boasts the premier training programs available in the industry today, including five-year apprenticeship programs, extensive journeyman training, organized instructor training, and certification programs. In addition to our five-year apprenticeship programs, UA Local 447 offers continuing education opportunity that includes journeymen training and certification.

UA Local 447 owns and operates a training center in Sacramento, California and trains our members to be the best qualified and most productive skilled workforce in the piping industry. The training provided by UA Local 447 is funded totally by our members without any taxpayer support.

Through our training department we offer Journeyman and Apprentice training in Plumbing, Pipe Fitting, and HVAC Service for our members. We also provide advanced certifications in Welding, Industrial Rigging, Medical Gas Installation, Crane Signaling, Foreman Supervision, and several others.

The apprenticeship consists of a five-year program registered with the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards and the Department of Labor. The apprenticeship includes a minimum of 216 hours annually of related classroom instruction, in addition to the minimum of 9000 hours of on the job training provided by the employing contractor over the five-year apprenticeship.

Our Apprentices normally work a full day and attend related training classes two nights per week for 9 months at the training center.

UA Local 447 Joint Apprenticeship Committee conducts quarterly recruitment on an annual basis or more based on additional manpower needs.

Training Coordinator, Matt Rotz, oversees the operation of our entire training program and works with UA Local 447 instructors, who are certified through the UA-Instructor Training Program, to provide high quality training classes.
